Bo’ness Revival

Premier motor sport event in Scotland – Magazine Publication and Printing

We have worked with Bo’ness Revival for a number of years, mainly creating a new logo and brand identity. In early 2018 Fearless were approached to do the design, marketing and print for the Bo’ness Revival event. It was a win-win situation for us because we love cars and we love design.

The Bo’Ness Revival, which is near the Queensferry Crossing in Kinneil Estate, is Scotland’s oldest motorsport venue. Racing cars compete against each other to be the fastest up the challenging Bo’ness Revival Hillclimb track. There are two parts to the Bo’ness Revival, The Classic and The Hill Climb.

The Bo’ness Revival Classic is a classic car event aimed at car enthusiasts and novices. You have a chance get up close to a huge selection of classic cars from across the ages with car displays from around 30 clubs. You can learn all about them when the Heritage arena presenters and watch owners take on the precision driving test.

A Brief history of the Hillclimb event

The Bo’ness Revival Hillclimb lets you see, hear and smell Scotland’s oldest motorsport venue roar into life, as legendary cars from across the ages, fiercely compete across two full days, to be the fastest up the challenging Bo’ness Revival Hillclimb. Bo’ness saw Scottish motor racing heroes like Jim Clark and Sir Jackie Stewart ‘cut their teeth’ at the motor racing venue. Every year at the Bo’ness Revival a selection of competing cars date from the early 1900s through to the late 1980s.

This isn’t a nice classic car parade though, they mean business and you can watch them battle it out against each other across two days of exciting, flat out racing action. Competitors travelling from across the UK, face a challenging tight and twisty course, which always delivers plenty of fast, sideways action. The cars are split into 16 different classes according to age, power and engine size and race across two days.

The Marketing, Magazine Publication and Printing

Firstly, we designed the Commercial Opportunity Booklet which is produced way before the event to promote and to encourage potential sponsors. We had great fun putting it together because we had to look through lots of car photos to see what cool cars we would put in the booklet. Once we had chosen all the amazing car photos we then drew all the illustrations too. This was sent to print months in advance of the event, this was an A5 landscape booklet.

We then designed the fliers that were handed out at the event and all the posters that were used to promote the event. We complete a range of different style posters with various styles. The leaflet it self was a bit different as it was an 8pp DL size. This way we got all the information on but was a little unique. It also gave map of the track and the main corners.

Finally, Fearless were also asked to design for the programme, the magazine publication and printing the official programme for the day. Again we got a chance to choose amazing car pictures, classic cars and hill climb cars. We also drew the illustrations for this programme. We received amazing feedback that it was the best programme some attendees had seen.

We really enjoyed doing the work on this job and attended the Bo’ness Revival ourselves. We would highly recommend attending if you have any interest in cars. We took inspiration from Tim Layzell as his artwork is amazing. We produced illustrations of the cars on the track in a similar style. Bo’ness runs once a year so check the website for updates on when the next event will be. It is a great day out.
